About Credit Unions
Credit unions can offer a way of obtaining finance at a local level without the hassle and problems involved in dealing with a bank. They are non-profit organisations run by their members, and will often have a less restrictive lending criteria than mainstream banks.
Members of the union can deposit savings and earn interest, or more importantly for our purposes, take out loans for small or medium amounts. This makes them ideal as credit card alternatives, as should you need to borrow a small amount to cover a gap in your budget, you can do this without committing yourself to the long term operation of a credit card account and the risk of debt problems that that can bring.
Indeed, in cases where a bad credit rating mean that a credit card is not an option, credit unions may be able to provide a credit facility, and usually at a much cheaper rate than the costly option of a payday loan.
